BroadView to offer clients carbon zero impact using video and webcast productions
We have set new standards in environmental responsibility by launching a carbon calculator for all productions. This will enable our clients to offset the carbon generated by these productions using one of three schemes. The schemes have been developed by carbon management specialists co2balance.
By processing relevant data, including travel to meetings, filming and editing time through all stages of a production, the calculator assesses the client’s assignment environmental impact. Clients are then offered the opportunity to offset the carbon footprint by way of a computed contribution to a selection of environmental projects.
The scheme currently contributes to three projects. These are the Somercombe Wood Project in Devon, UK, where trees are being planted on land owned by co2balance, and two programmes in Kenya which provide energy-saving cooking stoves to villages and schools across the country.
From 2010 large businesses will have to participate in the emissions trading scheme, the Carbon Reduction Commitment. BroadView’s Carbon Neutral production process can form part of that activity – but many clients will want to participate long before then for important environmental and social reasons.
Last year BroadView commissioned research into the impact of a webcast from New Orleans. It showed those watching online used over 17,000 times less carbon than those who attended, saving in total half a football pitch worth of trees.
“We already know that webcasts and online video communications can themselves have environmental benefits, as they reduce the need for travel and virtualise presentations and sales pitches,” says Giordano Capuano, Marketing Manager at BroadView. “The carbon calculator enables clients to go further, offsetting carbon emissions incurred during the production of a video or webcast in a way that enhances both their image and environmental credentials.”
"The Carbon Calculator that we have developed with Broadview allows companies to take action on the carbon footprint that their video production creates.
These types of environmental friendly actions are vital if we are going to tackle the growing threat of climate change, and we encourage people to sign up to this carbon offset option and shout about the green steps that they have taken".
